Currently in the World of Fashion

First and foremost, the industry mourns the loss of another bright fashion figure on June 26, 2007. Liz Claiborne, designer, and brand builder since the 1970s, passed away at the age of 76 from abdominal cancer. Born in Brussels, Belgium, she was the epitome of the American dream, an independent woman, and an inspirational fashionista.

In brighter, yet less intense fashion news, Just Cavalli is opening on 5th, being one of the only (if not the only) bridge line store in Midtown and Upper-East Side on the world's favorite shopping avenue. Also happening in New York are the Premiere Vision Tradeshows in the Metropolitan Pavilion on July 17th and 18th. Buyers, fashion planners, merchandisers, and young talent will flock to New York from all over the world, including France, Italy, Spain, Portugal and Austria.

On the other side of the pond, Paris is holding another world-renowned Rendez Vous Trade Show tommorow. If anyone has attended one of these shows, they understand the amount of undiscovered fashion talent that is lurking around Europe. The tradeshows tend to be held in trendy, yet low key venues, as well. On the more upscale side of town, Paris Haute Couture Week starts on July 2.

Gucci Resort Collection

WWD describes the look as "Good Girl Gone Bad", while Style.com calls it "Rebel Without a Cause". Both publications are right on cue with the mix of leather biker gloves with prim A-line skirts. Remember in Grease, when Sandra Dee threw on some leather and all of a sudden became a rebel? I think that's the romantic irreverence that Frida felt when she was designing this collection.
Look at me, I'm Frida Giannini. Bubbling with creativity...

In Memory of Gianfranco Ferre

Gianfranco Ferre

August 15, 1944-June 18, 2007

Gianfranco Ferre, Italian fashion designer and innovator, died today in Milan from a brain hemorrage. Celebrated and internationally acclaimed since the 1980's, Ferre has left the industry with glamorous gowns and the chicest of suits. And as his gowns have gone glamorously down the red carpet, Gianfranco himself will go glamorously down in history.

Stars Are Blind

Now, I am not usually interested in celebrity fashions, mostly because a star's outfit usually the work (or fault) of the stylist. While celebrity stylists never seem to recieve enough credit, there are some that must appreciate their lack of boldface on Page Six.

Now, I am not a catty celebrity fashion critic, because I don't think Joan Rivers gives celebs enough room to experiment with fashions, but there are some mistakes that fashionistas just cannot overlook. Kim Catrall?! What are you doing?! You were the sexiest Sex and the City chick! Now you look dowdy and dated. Nicky Hilton? You weigh 90 pounds. How do you manage to make yourself look bad in anything? Gwen, I'm sorry, but did you really think high-waisted plaid shorts with ballet flats would be flattering in any aspect? Just say no to jealous, malicious stylists, girls... Your better off on your own... Unless your Britney Spears.

This Summer, Get High

I have a confession to make. Every day of my life, I get high.... High heels, that is. And I'm not talking 2 or 3 inches. I need shoes that are 4 to 6 inches minimum! What do you mean the beach is an inapproptiate place to wear wedges?

If your looking for comfortable, practical shoes, you should probably go find the Birkenstock website, because your not going to find them here. This summer is all about standing tall....really tall. Remember Balenciaga's shoes in his Spring/Summer 07 collection? Well, we don't expect you to get that high, but heels do so much for a woman. Legs look longer, bodies seem thinner, and postures appear more confident.

My shoe collection for the summer includes:

Michael Kors

Gucci

Kenneth Cole
