Balenciaga’s Spring 2007 Collection
Genius? An understatement. Returning to the robotic theme of Winter/Fall 2000, Balenciaga’s Nicolas Ghesquière took futurism into a whole new level with mixing metallic with prints and clean lines with unique draping. Without a doubt, this collection will be sighted all over Hollywood and New York after dark. This flashy, fashion-forward look will be devoured by fashionistas and (unfortunately) celebs alike.

Elie Saab’s Spring 2007 Collection
Is anyone noticing the pattern? Obviously, I’m leaning towards shine this season – and lots of it. We’re done with the somber understatement of Fall/Winter 2006. This season, if the crowd doesn’t need Bvlgari shades when you walk into the party, you have done something very wrong and you should probably go home. This all gold collection was a bit of a risk, and although I absolutely adore it, critics like Style.com disagreed with the abundance of ‘bling’ (but who cares!) Elie Saab kept it glamorous and sensational while maintaining that feminine look that he’s always been known for.

Runway Show that Absolutely Disappointed Amanda in 2006:
Gucci’s 2007 Resort Collection
That’s right. I said it. I am disenchanted with Gucci’s rather unsophisticated, country-inspired 2007 Resort Collection. I could be comparing Frida Giannini with her fabulous predecessor Tom Ford, but I really don’t think that the Gucci customer wants to give up the edgy glamour that Gucci has been known to embrace. I guess this goes back to the epidemic consumerist trap that designers fall into, but I’m a merchandising major at heart. To put it simply, the Gucci customer is used to flashy handbags and innovative, head-turning dresses. The only direction that Giannini makes my head turn is away from this collection.
